Who I play with

ARTISTS

Two main projects: the U2 tribute U2.V2, where I play the Larry Mullen Jr role, and Riddemption. I've also worked with many other artists on a regular basis.

U2.V2

A U2 tribute band from West Central Scotland, recreating the Zoo TV-era spectacle. On the kit I take the Larry Mullen Jr chair — the engine room of U2's sound — recreating his parts with the discipline, restraint and drive they're built on.

The craft

Playing the Larry Mullen Jr chair

Emulating Larry is less about flash and more about feel — his sound is built on time, restraint and a handful of unmistakable parts. Here's how I get there for U2.V2, down to the kit and the tuning.

The kit & tuning

Matching Larry's setup — a compact Yamaha-style kit with deep toms tuned low and open for the martial rolls of "Sunday Bloody Sunday" and "Bad", and a tight, cracking snare.

Discipline & restraint

Larry plays for the song: rock-solid time, no wasted fills, the militaristic snare and driving hi-hat that hold U2's anthems together.

The signature parts

Learning the iconic grooves note-for-note — the marching snare of "Sunday Bloody Sunday", the tom pulse of "I Will Follow", the relentless eighths under "With or Without You".

Locked to a click

Like Larry, playing to click and sequences so the big Zoo TV production stays tight and true, night after night.
